I am not getting into the discussion on these photos. i just have a question i cannot keep in.

isn’t saying ‘if youre not a person of colour you don’t get to have an opinion’ racist against everyone who isn’t ‘of colour’? ‘White’ people are a broad spectrum of people from different cultures and shit… and you’re saying they can’t do something based solely on their skin colour. so isnt that fighting racism with racism? How is that helping anything?

Also, how WOULD this apply to someone like her? Born with one ‘white’ parent and one ‘black’ parent. Its not her fault she ended up with whatever genetic thing made her skin white instead of brown. So she would have to deal with it double time. The racism from people like that who think ‘white’ people have no say in racism issues etc. AND on the other side dealing with all the race issues against ‘blacks’ etc.

I agree with the above. The person who said: “If you aren’t a person of colour, you don’t get to have an opinion on it,” is just about the most racist person I’ve ever seen. I’m not a person of “color”, and now my opinions are being oppressed for it? Yeah, screw you, too.

Every single person in the planet belongs to a race of some kind, and they belong to a culture of some kind. That’s why pulling the race card is stupid. If dressing like Lil’ Wayne or a Geisha is offensive, then what the hell is the point of dressing up in the first place? If I want to dress like a Geisha, I’ll fucking do it. And when someone asks what I am, I’ll say “I’m a Geisha”, not “a Japanese woman”. Geisha is so specific, like pirate, or ninja, or cowboy, or soldier. They’re just an occupation; Who cares what culture it’s from? And, hell, Lil’ Wayne is even more specific. If someone dresses like Dolly Parton, am I going to be offended because I’m a white girl from Tennessee? Uh no.

So thank you, lostmymojo, for what must have been some kind of attempt at wisdom. But cultural appropriation is one, huge crock of bullshit.
